Designing Strategies: Innovation in Recessions Christian Crews, Futurist andSpace Labs (US)
By now most have read stories about how visionary companies laid the groundwork for their future growth by innovating in the Great Depression. There are equally important lessons to be learned from the 1990 and 2001 contractions that are not as well publicized. After a quick review of the more notable examples, this presentation will lay out the major elements of successful innovation common across these past downturns and highlight which elements are most relevant for innovation today. Every era is different, so the talk will end with a set of new practices for innovation unique to the current recession.
